Executive summary

TrendRoute V6 is a meaningful step forward from V5. The goal was not simply to make the solver faster. V6 improves three dimensions at the same time: optimisation speed, total route distance, and operational route quality.

Operational quality measures how sensible a route is for real delivery work — including revisiting served areas, start/end progression, crossing edges, backtracking and unnecessary detours.

The result is a route that is not only efficient mathematically, but also easier for dispatchers and couriers to trust and execute.

A better route — without a quality trade-off V6 improves route distance and operational quality simultaneously. The 0.8% distance improvement is reported across more than 30,000 real customer routes in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Oman in the current release evaluation.

01

Better operational route quality

The shortest route is not always the route that works best operationally. V6 evaluates candidate routes not only by travel cost, but also by how the route is structured and how likely it is to make sense to the people executing it.

01 Revisiting areas

Penalises leaving an area and later returning when the route could be completed more coherently.

02 Start & end progression

Favors a more sensible route progression at the beginning and end instead of awkward geographic jumps.

03 Crossing edges & backtracking

Measures criss-crossing and doubling back that often makes a route look wrong to dispatchers and couriers.

04 Unnecessary detours

Actively looks for awkward detours and skipped-then-revisited stops before the route is finalised.

2.3% higher operational route quality In the V6-vs-V5 benchmark, V6 improves the operational route-quality score by 2.3%. This is intended to reduce the gap between mathematical optimisation and the route a dispatcher or courier is willing to follow without manual re-sequencing.
02

Shorter routes without sacrificing shape

V6 is also 0.8% more optimised in total route distance than V5.

This matters because improving route shape can sometimes increase distance. V6 is designed to search for a better balance: strong route shape while still reducing kilometres travelled.

Across fleet-scale operations, a fraction of a percent compounds into meaningful reductions in driving, fuel, vehicle use and driver time.

03

20% faster optimisation

Despite evaluating more candidate strategies and more route-quality information, V6 is 20% faster than V5 in the headline V6-vs-V5 benchmark.

This allows planning and replanning to happen closer to departure time and increases the number of routes that can be processed on the same infrastructure.

The key point V6 does more work, searches more deeply and evaluates route quality more explicitly — while still improving speed and route distance.

What else is improved in V6?

Beyond the headline metrics, V6 strengthens several parts of the optimisation pipeline that matter in daily delivery operations.

A deeper route search

V6 evaluates five independent route-building strategies instead of three, then runs a final improvement pass designed to keep or improve the selected route rather than make it worse.

Smarter time-window handling

Time-window constraints are handled with stronger attention to the overall route structure, so the engine can preserve delivery promises without unnecessarily damaging distance or route quality.

Walking, parking & dense-area ETAs

V6 uses pedestrian routing to decide when walking is preferable to driving, where the vehicle should be left, and how nearby stops should form a walking tour. Walking time and parking behaviour are reflected more realistically in dense-area planning.

Routing-data validation & reproducibility

V6 adds consistency checks for routing data and can repair specific matrix inconsistencies before optimisation. Under the validated profile, identical input and configuration produce identical routing outputs.

How route selection changes

V6 adds operational quality to candidate evaluation, so the winning route is judged not only by distance and time, but also by whether its structure is sensible to execute.

What this means for operations

  • Lower cost per route through shorter routes and faster planning.
  • More natural route shapes, reducing manual re-sequencing.
  • Faster replanning when orders or conditions change close to departure.
  • More realistic dense-area planning where parking and walking matter.
TrendRoute V6 in one sentence

V6 is faster mathematically, shorter in distance and stronger operationally — with 20% faster optimisation, 0.8% lower route distance and 2.3% better operational route quality than V5.
